Best WordPress backup plugin, Compare 5 different providers

Today, we are comparing the 5 best WordPress backup and backup plugins on the market. We're talking about pros, cons, key features, pricing and reasons and when you want to use them.

Do you need to use Backup?

Yes, if you are confident in your server programming and administration skills, you do not need to do this!

If you are anyone like me, you have spent a great deal of time working on your blog.

Too many people wake up and find their blog is gone. As if by magic, I have actually met many casestudy.

This is something most people don't think about until it's too late. It happened to me in the early days of my blogging career and I didn't want it to happen to you.

List of WordPress backup plugins I find most stable!

The best WordPress backup plugins and tools

1. BlogVault

A plugin is used to connect your website to their server for easy setup and they use incremental backups to reduce server load.

BlogVault will back up your site daily – automatically and provide 90 days of backup history. And your backups will be stored securely on their server with the option of downloading the backups to your computer or Dropbox.

The higher packages offer a white label solution with the option of adding customers and group members. So it's easy to know why WordPress management companies seem to be attracted to BlogVault because of their backup needs – especially considering the complicated nature of backups.

Notable feature of BlogVault

  • Automatic daily backup.
  • Support multi-site WordPress.
  • Complete backing up your database and WordPress files.
  • Unlimited backup on demand.
  • Incremental backups to reduce server load.
  • Offsite storage and standalone access so you can recover from your BlogVault dashboard.
  • Backups are stored securely on Amazon S3 servers.
  • Restore your website in a few clicks.
  • Move to a new domain, host or server easily.
  • Website management function.
  • Email notifications for backup, migration, etc.

2. VaultPress (part of Jetpack)

VaultPress is a backup and security solution designed and built by Automattic, the same company that operates WordPress.com.

VaultPress, now part of Jetpack, automatically backs up your entire website daily. That includes your comments, posts, pages, media files, modifications, etc. for their server.

The one-click recovery process is simple and their support personnel are always available if you need assistance. To me, having someone who is just an email to help restore my site, is a huge plus.

Highlights of Vaultpress:

  • Automatic daily backup (Realtime on higher packages)
  • Backup on WordPress platform itself.
  • Restore your website with the click of a button from your control panel.
  • Customer support is available to help you if you need it. This is extremely important, because during setup you can get the wrong configuration from Cloudflare, which can lead to errors.
  • Daily scans for malware.
  • 30-day money back guarantee.

Price: Starting at $ 39 / year (including other Jetpack subscription privileges)

3. UpdraftPlus

The free version of UpdraftPlus is the highest ranking WordPress backup plugin, with over a million active installs. With such a huge user base, you know that it has been tried and tested in many different situations.

The free version allows you to backup WordPress files and databases along with the ability to restore your site from backup and send your backup to remote storage.

You can choose to run backups manually or schedule them.

The premium version has lots of extra features to keep your site safe. This includes a site replication and migration, automatic backup before updating WordPress plugins, themes, and itself, additional backup storage points and more.

You have the option of buying add-ons individually or as a package (the latter works much cheaper).

Feature highlights of UpdraftPlus

  • Run backups manually or schedule them in advance.
  • Back up your entire WordPress site.
  • Set up multiple automatic backups on different schedules.
  • Store your backups with Amazon S3, Google Drive, Rackspace or Dropbox. Paid version includes additional locations like Microsoft OneDrive, WebDAV, etc.
  • Restore your website with backups created from other plugins (paid feature)
  • Customer support is available with the premium version.

Price: Free with paid plans starting at $ 70 for up to 2 sites.

4. BackupBuddy

The same company as iTheme Security, and a subsidiary of Liquid Web (provider of Server, VPS and Managed WordPress Hosting).

BackupBuddy is a great backup plugin for an affordable price. Plus, it comes with a bunch of great features. In fact, it's probably the best, cheapest WordPress backup recovery plugin on the list (price to feature ratio).

Has an intuitive and friendly interface, direct backup with live reports of the backup process, how to quickly download and move your files to off-site storage, security scans and a Few other wonderful things.

Salient features

  • Complete backup of your database and files.
  • Backup scheduling options.
  • Backups are stored off site.
  • Backup can download ZIP.
  • Site migration feature.
  • Ability to exclude certain database files and tables.

5. CodeGuard

CodeGuard is a very smart backup service that actually works on your WordPress site, instead of interacting directly with it through WordPress mechanisms.

CodeGuard makes an initial backup of your site and then simply tracks it looking for any changes. If changes occur, CodeGuard will take note of them and make another backup. Most importantly, you can also restore your site at any time. All of this makes it the top choice for the best WordPress backup recovery plugin.

Salient features:

  • Database and file system backup.
  • Auto backup with real time update.
  • Continuous monitoring – CodeGuard looks for any changes that occur on your site.
  • Easy recovery.
  • Use Amazon S3 for storage.

The conclusion to choose the Backup Plugin for you!

My opinion when choosing Plugin to backup:

  • Use VPS: UpdraftPlus is the best.
  • Use Cpanel: Vaultpress is the best.

If I had to choose the best WordPress backup recovery plugin for my website, I would be somewhere between BackupBuddy, UpdraftPlus and Vaultpress.

BackupBuddy and UpdraftPlus are quite similar: low prices, great features that meet all your needs and they can be used right from the WordPress dashboard (no need to log in anywhere else). UpdraftPlus offers a few free services, although it's not as user-friendly as BackupBuddy.

Blogvault and CodeGuard are also viable solutions and they come with great features. However, they are a bit more expensive and especially if you want to connect more than some websites. However, they are still very effective with what they do.

Which one of the WordPress backup plugins do you use on your website? Please let us know in the comments if you encounter any problems with one of them.
